Gaza - (A. M. Qattan Foundation)
On Wednesday, 15 August 2018, the Child Centre – Gaza (CCG) concluded activities of the summer camp. As part of the Non-curricular Activities for Orphaned Children of the 2014 Israeli War on Gaza project (3rd year of the Wajd Project), the summer camp contributed to promoting innovation and creativity among these children.
This year, a total of 320 children participated in the CCG summer camp. It featured a wide array of cultural, artistic and recreational activities, including storytelling, reading, fine arts, handicrafts, popular and physical games, physical theatre, film screenings, and brain teasers.
The summer camp activities also included Dabke, theatre, choir, creative writing, chess, plastic arts, and computer. Additionally, children took part in sports, such as football, Kung Fu, karate, table tennis, and swimming.
On 15 August 2018, the CCG held a closing ceremony, which engaged children in several activities. In addition to a Debke performance, children of the CCG choir sang Nassam Alayna el-Hawa [The air breezed upon us] and Te’la Wtet’ammar Ya Dar [Thrive and prosper O Home]. Min Haqqi [It’s my right], a song composed by children, was also performed. A theatrical performance, Aalam Bila Alwan [A World without Colours], was showcased. In addition, the summer camp activities featured a circus show. Children of the CCG Creative Writing activity read out a collection of poems, titled Tales of my Country. The ceremony was concluded with an art exhibition of products made by children, who participated in the Arts activity.
The Wajd Project is a distinctive programme that was launched by Taawon (Welfare Association) and Qatar Fund for Development, the major donor of the project. With contributions from the Bank of Palestine and Hajj Hashem Ata al-Shawwa Charitable Endowment Fund, Wajd Project aims at empowering orphaned children of the 2014 Israeli war on Gaza to live in dignity, move on to accomplish their aspirations and hopes, and be active members in society.
