Between 17 – 24 July the A. M. Qattan Foundation organised in partnership with Les Instants Vidéo Numériques et Poétiques (Marseille), the French-German Cultural Centre and the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre in Ramallah, the 3rd edition of /Si:n/ festival for Video and Performance, under the title, “The Lonely Crowd”.
The festival, which was organised by curators Lara Khaldi and Reem Shilleh, included a number of new performances and video installations such as: Post- 93, a three-channel video installation by Ihab Jadallah, A Journey to Ramallah, a silent video by Alaa Abuasad, Truce Hurts, an installations of images by Majd Abdel Hamid, Directions for Intimate Solutions, or, Seemingly More Intimate, a video by Noor Abu Arafeh, and The Blindness of Love, a video by Yazin Khalili. The live performances included: Playground, a four-channel video installation and live performance by Samar Haddad King, The Photographer, the Car Thief, and the Journalist, a lecture performance by Shuruq Harb, Neon Seeds, a performance and an installation by Dia Bargouti, and Wihdeh Wataniyyeh (National Loneliness) by Tarek Knorn.
Ten videos created by Mosireen, a Cairo based collective of media activists, were shown during the festival across different locations in Ramallah, including cafes, shops, car parks, and other public spaces. Three screening programmes of video works and films created by international artists were shown as well, organized by Les Instants Video as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of video art.
The festival included several public lectures given by the renowned Palestinian director, Kamal AlJafari, as well as Robert Stephane and Nadine Janssens from Belgium, Willy Legaud from France, and a performance by German artist, Rochus Aust, entitled Vision Palestine – Bus–Line-Palestine.
