The Qattan Centre for the Child organised final performances by children who had participated in activities during the first phase of this summer’s performing arts programme.  Held between 24 – 30 June, these performances included Palestinian traditional dance the Dabkeh, theatrical sketches, and choir singing.

In one performance, children danced the Dabkeh, accompanied by Palestinian songs sung by Mohammad Assaf, the winner of the second season of Arab Idol. The young performers also presented theatre sketches, intended to reflect the streets of Gaza from their perspective.

The second phase of the performing arts programme will be launched in July, and will focus on children who demonstrated passion and commitment in the first phase.

Fine art works made by children aged 6 – 9 on the programme were of a very high quality, and distinguished by bold colours and diverse shapes. Children who took courses in animation, pottery, and doll making, were often working outside the usual creative boundaries, and these activities offered children the opportunity to really push their imagination and challenge their creativity.
