"Keffiyeh: Made in China" in Belgium and Palestine

Home In Qattan News "Keffiyeh: Made in China" in Belgium and Palestine

On 24 March, the theatrical production "Keffiyeh: Made in China" was launched at the Royal Flemish Theatre in Brussels, Belgium. Keffiyeh is a co-production between the Foundation and the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) and forms part of the Programme's Performing Arts Summer School. It was supported by the European Cultural Foundation and Government of the Kingdom of Belgium through the Belgian Development Agency.

The play is directed by Bart Danckaert and is based on texts by Dalia Taha and Joris Van den Brande. It starts out from clichéd views and prejudices that Belgians (and westerners in general) have about Palestinians and vice versa. But it also tries to look beyond these clichés and to reclaim a basic humanity in this complex exchange (that is dominated by the media and YouTube).

In Palestine, "Kufiyyeh: Made in China" was launched on 18 April in Hebron at Na’am Theatre, followed by touring shows at Dar Annadwa in Bethlehem on 20 April in collaboration with Al Harah Theatre; Oyoon Theatre, Majdal Shams in the Occupied Golan Heights on 23 April; Al-Midan Theatre in Haifa on 24 April; Al Kasaba Theatre and Cinematheque in Ramallah on 26 April; the Khadouri College Theatre in Tulkarem on 27 April; and finally the Palestinian National Theatre (Al-Hakawati) in Jerusalem on 28 April.
