Recently The Mosaic Rooms hosted various events as part of the biennial festival, Shubbak: A Window on Contemporary Arab Culture, which took place at several venues across London between 22 June and 6 July.

This is the second Shubbak festival, and it included 50 events with artists participating from 16 countries over 15 days. The festival’s programme offered Arab culture exhibitions, concerts, plays, family events, talks, and seminars.

Omar Al-Qattan, Secretary of the Board of Trustees at the A. M. Qattan Foundation, was the chair of Shubbak this year, and the Mosaic Rooms, along with a number of other institutions, formed a new trust for the 2013 festival. These institutions included The British Museum, The Tate Modern, the Barbican, The Arab-British Centre, and the Delfina Foundation.

The Shubbak Festival, supported by the Mayor of London, is held every two years, bringing together outstanding artists and cultural activities from across the Arab world. Shubbak (which means ‘window’ in Arabic), offers people the opportunity to engage with and develop a greater understanding of contemporary Arab culture.
