Damage at GMS

Home In Qattan News Damage at GMS

This issue of the Foundation's newsletter is coming out as Israel's murderous military campaign in Gaza continues. Three months ago, a small but historic project was launched by the Foundation, the Gaza Music School (GMS). Local enthusiasm was tremendous and international support generous, especially from the University of Goteborg and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). We were very proud of this unique project, which had taken two years to plan. On the first day of Israel's vicious and indiscriminate bombing campaign, the GMS premises were destroyed. Luckily no children were present at the time, although its coordinator, Ibrahim Najjar, sustained light shrapnel wounds. (for Nadia Hijab's article on GMS click here) This destruction will not deter us. Indeed, plans are already in place to re-launch the project as soon as it is safe to do so, and at whatever cost. Needless to say, the Palestinian people's will to live and hope and create will not be crushed!
